The Field says: “ There seems to he general agreement that the Marylebone Club has done very well in the choice of the team for Australia, but the plain fact is that it is an “ if ” team. “If Hobbs does not break down, tlie absence of any other first-wicket partner for Sutcliffe will not matter “ If Larwood keeps sound ho will ne the very man to open with Tate. “If there are faster wick ts Australia and Tate regains the skill he lost here h 0 may once more be the only great bowler of the world. .... “ If Freeman succeeds in the third tour after failing in the others it will be a marvel. . “ If Mead, with the handicap of age and weight, can survive fielding for two or three days in the intense heat without tiring, he will be the very man for number four. “If all these things happen, or even several, we will win the tests. “If not we may have to wait till wo can do without so many ‘ ifs.’ ”—Australian Press Association.
