TO-DAY’S FOOTBALL.

REPRESENTATIVE RUGBY MATCH

Carisbrook is in capital condition for the representative match between Otago and Auckland to-day, and consequently the play should be bright and open. In eluded in the Auckland backs are some well-known players and particular interest will centre around the appearance of the full-back, Butler, who was considered to be unlucky in missing a place in the team for Africa. Falwasser, who toured Britain and France with the Maori team, is the star of the three-quarters. The forwards are a sound set, and arcwell led by Knight and Finlayson, the latter of whom is a brother to the All Black player. The Otago team is much stronger than the one that played against Waiararpa, and it is generally expected that the scores will be close. The teams arc as follow:—AUCKLAND. Full-back —V. Butler. Fletcher, and M. Linton (rover). OTAGO. Full-back —D. Stevenson. Three-quarters—G. M’Ciymont, C. Nicholson, R. Webb. Five-eighths.—H. Haughton, N. M. Bradanovitch. • Half-back—A. Holden. Forwards —B. Carnegie. Mr G. MTvenzic will control the match. The final of the Fourth Grade competition will be played before the big game. The box plan for the stand is still open. HIGH SCHOOL MATCHES. The Gore High School first fifteen will meet the Otago Boys’ High School second fifteen this afternoon on the school gi’ound. junior teams from these schools will play on the Oval. RUGBY LEAGUE. The interest of followers of the League code is centred to-day in the trial match, Possibles v. Probables, on the Caledonian Ground. The fact that the players for the northern tour will be selected after the match ensures that the play will be fast and open. A junior trial match will he played on the Oval. ASSOCIATION. On the main ground at Logan Park the replay for the championship final between Northern and Maori Hill will bo fought out, and judging by last Saturday’s play, it should be a sterling game. Officials and players should not be hampered by over-zealous followers trespassing on the lino, as the association has been fortunate in obtaining an enclosed ground, with stand accommodation, from which the spectators will be able to follow the play up and down the field in comfort. This should be a very fast and exciting game.
