DOMINION TEAM’S WITHDRAWAL. STRONG RESENTMENT EXPRESSED. (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 27. Strong criticism of the methods of the selection of the Dominion Davis Cup team was uttered at a meeting of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association last evening, and a motion vas passed recommending that in future the matter of representation should not be left in the hands of the Management Committee of the New Zealand Association, but should be decided by the associations as a whole, the affiliated bodies being given an opportunity of, expressing their opinions. The chairman of the association (Mr W. N. Seay) said: “ The time has come when New Zealand should enter an official team in the Davis Cup. If this were done it would do a great deal to improve lawn tennis in the Dominion. Why did New Zealand withdraw from the Davis Cup after having defeated Portugal? No one knows; we have never had word from the New Zealand Association or from any other source. If we are to compete in the cup competition an official team should be sent.” AUSTRALIANS IN BELGIUM.
