KNOCKED DOWN BY MOTOR TRUCK. (Per United Press Association.) NAPIER, July 3. Through being knocked down by a light motor truck at Waipawa, the Mayor of Waipawa (Mr H. M. Rathbone) suffered injuries which necessitated his removal to the Waipukurau Hospital, he now lies in a serious condition. The driver of the truck, William Stanley, Waipawa, swerved to avoid Mr Rathbone, who was crossing the road, but the latter also stepped the same way. Medical attention disclosed head injuries and at a late hour to-night Mr Rathbone had not regained consciousness. A BROKEN LEG. While stepping off a railway engine at the engine sheds last night. Alfred Harwood, a fireman, aged 22, slipped as the result of his clothing catching on a projecting part, and broke his right leg. The injured man, who is single, resides at 49 Melbourne street.
