A GOOD HAUL.

TOBACCONIST’S SHOP RAIDED. SYSTEMATIC OPERATIONS. (Special to Daily Times.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 3. Thieves broke into the shop of Mr J, T. Cooper, hairdresser and tobacconist, at Linwood, last evening, and made a good haul, getting away with a large quantity of cigarettes, tobacco, and fancy goods. The shop is situated in a new block of buildings at the corner of Cashel street and Linwood avenue, and last Thursday night an unsuccessful attempt was made to break into it through the front door. Last evening the thieves were more daring, for they appear to have gone to the back of the building through the yard of a private residence. They forced a back door in the buildings, and then the back door of the shop. They must have worked for some time on the second door, for almost from top to bottom of the outer edge it was deeply indented with the marks of a heavy flat lever. Inside the shop was the broken point of a file. Two large packages of new stock which had not been opened were taken. The thieves also ransacked the shop and showcase, taking away practically all the higher-priced cigarettes, including a large quantity of Turkish blend, cigarette cases, and tobacco pouches. It would appear that two men were engaged on the “ job.”
