MEETING OF GENERAL COMMITTEE. A meeting of the general committee of the Patients and Prisoners’ Aid Society ivas held in the Returned Soldiers’ Assoeiations Rooms yesterday afternoon, and was attended by Mr K. A. Roacveav (chairman), Mesdamcs E, C. Reynolds, James Dev, J. R. Callan, Sir Geoige Fenwick, and Messrs David Todd. W. Easton, J. Loudon, D. E. Tlieomm, C. B. Smith, W. Mitchell, E. R. Grace, G. H. Ellill'c, and G. L. Denniston. AGENT’S REPORT. Mr E. G. Gumming, agent, submitted the following report for the period ended July 3: — . . . " The month has been a fairly heavy one. A good deal of my time has been taken up collecting in the district of Palmerston. I may say that the people received me very kindly, and with the piomises that are to come at a later date, the result on the whole will be very satisfactory- There is amongst the people of the district a very kindly feeling towards the society and • its bcnencient work. lam satisfied that my next visit will bring better results. I have done a little collecting in the city, and am confident that I shall do well. Let me further state that as the city has come back to me for collecting, the committee can depend upon my very best effort being put forth to not only collect the usual amounts, but also secure new subscribers. Convalescent Home. —You will, I am sure, be pleased to know that the home continues to do good work. There have been in residence a fairly satisfactory number of patients, and further the place is in good order. Some 32 cases have been granted relief. These cases are all inquired into, and your agent was satisfied that it was the society’s duty to give such assistance as he thought was necessary- You will be pleased to know that as from the first of the month a new method will be adopted in keeping the records of all who get relief from the society. This will be done on the card system. Each card will not only give name and address of the person helped, but also a brief history of the case.” The report was adopted. Mr Gumming further reported that two cows had been purchased for the Powell Rest Home. Mr Todd said they would soon be able to pay for the cost of the cows as a result of the saving in the expenditure on milk and butter for the home. FINANCES. Mr Todd submitted a report from the Finance Committee. He said that the work being carried out at the Rest Home at Warrington by Mr Clark in laying out the ground, planting, etc., was worthy of mention. The treasurer (Mr Grace) reported for the sis months ended June 30. Ho said the total receipts to date amounted to £762 19a sd. while payments amounted to £IOO6 4s Bd. After allowing for moneys expended on fixed assets and legacy moneys received, the net revenue deficiency amounted to £505 I3s 2d. — The report was received. GIFT FROM SAVINGS BANK. A letter was received from the Dunedin Savings Bank stating that it had made a grant of £2OO to the society. It was decided to send a letter of appreciation to (he trustees of the bank for the gift. The chairman explained that the £2OO could be donated to any of the purposes of the society. CONVALESCENT HOME. Mr Gumming reported on the James Powell Convalescent Home. He said that there had been a, fairly large number of patients in residence and all had derived much good as a result of the change made possible for them. At the latest date nine patients were in the home. The report was adopted. HOSPITAL COMMITTEE. Mr Gumming reported on his visits to the varipus institutions. The choirs at the Hospital had done fine Christian work. He suggested that members of the Hospital Committee might be able to accompany him on sime of his visits to Seacliff or Waitati. The chairman stated that he intended to accompany Mr Gumming on some of these visits. Several aspects of the activities of the Hospital Committee were discussed, and Mr Cumming’s report was then adopted.
