FEWER BANKRUPTCIES.

THE POSITION IN AUCKLAND. SIGN OF RETURNING PROSPERITY. (Special to Daily Times.) AUCKLAND, July 2. There was another decrease in the bankruptcies in the Auckland district last month, there being only nine failures as compared with 16 in the preceding month. In June last year there was a total of 29 bankruptcies. The half-yearly figure stands at 67, which is lower than was the case in the first half year of either 1926 or 1927. “ The majority of bankruptcies I have handled this year have been from the city,” said the official assignee, Mr G. N. Morris. “ Country bankruptcies have been few and far between, and I take this to mean that the country is getting on its feet again. A return to prosperity in the country must be followed by a similar change in conditions in the city, and it is only a matter of time before this comes about. It is definitely safe to predict it. Even with the cases I have bad this year there have been a considerable number where the men have been insolvent for two or three years. "There can be no doubt that business is improving,” added Mr Morris. “An adjustment of the property market would see conditions almost back to normal.”
