TAXI DRIVER ARRESTED.
SEQUEL TO MOTOR FATALITY. A REMAND GRANTED. (Per United Press Association.) ROTORUA, July 2. An inquest on John O’Connor, who was killed on Friday, was opened on Saturday and adjourned sine die. A taxi driver CArthur Duncan), whose car was brought to a garage with a shattered wind screen and other signs of ill-usage on Friday night, and -whose account was deemed unsatisfactory, was arrested and charged with negligently driving a motor vehicle, thus causing the death .of John O’Connor oil Friday night. Sergeant Hogan, representing the police, asked for a remand until July 17, which was granted. Bail was allowed.
A telegram on Saturday stated that a fatal accident occurred on the Whaka road, Rotorua, about 6.30 the nrevinn* night. John O'Connor, aged about 40, married, with a young family, and employed by the King George V Hospital, was going home from work oil his bicycle, when he was struck by a car and killed. The car cleared out, but the body was seen by passers-by. and the police were immediately informed.
