OTAGO RUGBY UNION.

The weekly meeting of the commitee of the Otago Rugby Union was held last night. The president (Mr D. M. Stuart) occupied the chair. Mr Kirk-Burunand, referee in the Fourth Grade match between Kaikorai and Dunedin, wrote stating that he bad ordered off a youth who had been playing as a substitute for Dunedin, but who was really a Sixth Grade Union player. The youth had said when he (the referee) had given a goal, " Goal be blowed.” The referee admitted that he had made a mistake in awarding the goal. (This was the lad who subsequently played for the Union Club, and had been ordered off by Mr G. S. Smith, the referee, after hia attention had been drawn to the previous incident by Mr Kirk-Burnnand). —The chairman said that Mr Kirk-Burnnand had taken exception to the manner in which the boy had made the statement. The referee had stated that the lad had apologised to him afterwards, and he had overlooked the fact that he should have reported him before to the committee. — It was decided to take no further action in the matter. It was also decided to inform the Referees’ Association that iu the event of a player being ordered off the ordering off must be reported to the committee, and that a referee has no further jurisdiction in regard _ to an offending player, so far as his original offence was concerned. Mr Harris, reporting on behalf of the Appeal Committee, said that it had considered the appeal by the Dunedin Club against the goal being awarded to Kaikorai (Kaikorai won the match 12— 9). Mr Harris said that the decision of Mr Kirk-Burnnand was_ unalterable, as the ruling was a question of fact. In the circumstances, however, the Appeal Committee thought that the match should be annulled and be played later if necessary.—Mr M'Donald said the result of the match made no difference to the positions of the two teams, as they had no chance in the competition. If the appeal were upheld the game would be a draw.— Mr Harris pointed out that Mr KirkBurnnand had requested the Dunedin Club to enter a protest. The Appeal Committee really recommended that the appeal be dismissed, but it thought that if either club had a chance in the competition the game might be replayed.— The appeal was dismissed. It was decided to uphold the protest of the Alhambra Club against the Green Island Club for playing a youth considerably over the weight of lOst iu the Sixth Grade, and to award the match to Alhambra. It was also decided to write to the Green Island Club and inform it that it must not play over-weight boys in this grade, otherwise the committee would consider the question of barring the club s Sixth Grade team from the competition. 4 Third Grade Alhambra youth was reported by the referee (Mr Hanan) tor/ using bad language to an opponent, just before the end of the with Zm-sari-Richmond. —It was decided to suspend the player for one playing Saturday. A player in the Green Third Grade team was disqualified during the pleasure of the union for striking an opponent in the match against University. The Green Island Club wrote stating that the player was not a member of the club, and had only been picked up to fill a vacancy. The referee (Mr Himburg) had previously reported that he had been unable to secure the name of this player. The committee had, however, since had the name given to it. A letter was received from the JNaseby Club protesting against the constitution of the Maniototo Sub-union. —It was decided to ask the Naseby Club to forward its complaint through the sub-union. The South Canterbury Union wrote asking that the match between its representative team and Otago should be played on August 29. —It was agreed to alter the date as requested. A letter was received from Mr W. A. Ritchie, secretary of the Otago State Primary Schools Sports Association, suggesting that two teams should be invited to play against Southland at Dunedin on Saturday, August 11, the weight limits to be Bst 71b for seniors and 7st for juniors. —lt was decided to write to the Southland Union inviting two schools teams to come to Dunedin to play on the date suggested. E. Cuff, of the Red Star Club, Masterton, was grauted a transfer to the Southern Club. _ GATE RECEIPTS. The secretary reported that the gate receipts at Tahuna Park on Saturday amounted to £l4O, and the total for all gates to £149 4s. SATURDAYS SENIOR MATCHES.
