As its title indicates, this little book is intended to give that knowledge to the amateur that will enable him to succeed in his cultural efforts, to which end all branches of gardening are discussed. Very full iuformation is given, in the sixteen chapters which go to make up the book, of soils and their composition, of manures and their proper ase, of the garden lay-out, and of the growing of and vegetables, of bulbom. plants an! their cultivation. ..lid of garden fruit trees and bushes. An interesting chapter is devotee! to flo vering plants and their classification, and included in this an long lists of halt-hardy and hardy annuals, perennials, .’ml biennials, with clear descriptions ’f the different species. A full index at the end of the book is a useful feature of this horticultural vade mccum, which is published at the moderate price of 11s Gd, and the book appears fairly to justify the claim made for it on the title page that it is “ an invaluable little book by a recognised authority on fruit, flower, and vegetable gardening."
