APPEAL TRIBUNAL INCREASES PENALTIES. FURTHER INQUIRIES IMPENDING. (Special io Daily Times.) AUCKLAND,'June 29. An increase in the term of disqualification to two years all round was made by the Auckland District Racing Committee in the appeal cases of the jockeys W. A. Rennie, C. N. Carmout, A. H. M'Crae, and A. J. Gilmer. The original disqualification of , 12 months in the cases of Rennie, Garment, and Gilmer, and six months in the case of M'Crae, was imposed by the Rotorua Racing Club on the ground of corrupt practice in regard to the riding of horses in the two high weight handicaps at the Rotorua races last February. The Judicial Committee held that Rennie, M'Crae, and Gilmer rode with the intention of assisting Dress Circle to win the I’ohutu High-Weight Handicap on February 11, and that M'Crae and Rennie were parties to a conspiracy that M'Crae’s horse, Lady Cintra. should win the Tarawera High-Weight Handicap on February 13. Later, it was held that Garment was also a party to the conspiracy in each race. The four jockeys concerned all appealed, and, in dismissing the appeals and increasing the penalty to two years’ disqualification in each case, the District Committee ordered that the deposits of £5 each should be forfeited. The District Committee also decided to ask the Takapuna Jockey Club to inquire into certain allegations made during the course of the inquiry regarding happenings connected with the running of that club’s high-weight handicaps last January, and to ask the Alexandra Racing Club at Pirongia to hold an inquiry into a question arising out of the running of the hurdle race at its race meeting last Boxing Day. The Rotorua Judicial Committee, in its finding, said it found the evidence insufficient to convict R. E. Thompson and G Holland of being parties to conspiracies, but drew the attention of the District Committee to “ the statement made by M'Crae as to Holland's malpractice at the Takapuna meeting.” It said the statement made by M'Crae was that Holland was a party to a, “ ready ” at Takapuna. The Orewu High-weight Handicap at Takapuna on January 28 was won by Uralla (L. Coleman), with Bold Front (G. Holland) second, and Red Comet (S. Henderson) third. Other jockeys riding in the race were Rennie, M'Crae, E. Garrett, T. Chaplin, and Thomson. The Waiwera High-weight Handicap on the second day was won by Red Comet (Henderson), with Pekatahi (Carmont) second, and Bold Front (Holland) third. Other riders were Coleman, M'Crae, Thomson, Chaplin, H. Dulieu, and A. M'Gregor, The Farmers’ Hurdle Race at Pirongia was won by Kawa (R. Savage), with Bonnie Canny (P. Butler) second, and Pepin (C. Symes) third. Other riders were Radford, A. C. Stead, E. L. Jarvis, and H. Tinker.
