(Per United Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., June 29. A pi’oposal to raise the sum of fII.OJO far the erection of a new library ami shops was approved of by the ratepayers at a poll to-day. There was a favourable majority of three to one. WELLINGTON, June 29. At the last session of the Appeal Court Black and White Cabs, Ltd., successfully appealed against the decision in the Supreme Court in favour of T. U. Anson. The latter was granted conditional leave of appeal to the Pr*y Council, but Black and White Cabs, Ltd., at the present session submitted a motion to set aside this leave, and to-day the court decided in its favour. For using unstamped scales Wah King vas fined 10s. He had bought them out of an auction mart, and they bore a rejection mark which prohibited their use until put in order. Wallace James Clifford True, who was released early this year on probationary license, after serving, a term of two years’ reformative detention for theft, a further three months for thefts involving £3 10s, the sentence to be concurrent with the 15 months he received in May, at Marton, after travelling round the country and stealing at various places. GISBORNE, June 29. The electors at Gisborne to-day carried a poll by a majority of 172 votes to abolish the tramway system. Two previous polls taken on the ratepayers vote were invalidated on technicalities. The figures to-day were: For abolition 1286, against 1124. The council intends to establish a municipal bus service.
