OTAGO MOTOR CLUB.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Otago Motor Club was held last night, Mr A. E. Ansell presiding over a large attendance of members. CORRESPONDENCE. Mr W. J. M'Gonigal, Miller’s Flat, wrote drawing attention to the excessive camber on some of the country roads, and asked that the club bring pressure to bear on the county councils concerned with a view to having the camber lessened.—lt was agreed thatthe counties be written to requesting that the regulation camber be adhered to as far as possible. Mr W. H. Lyons wrote requesting that a danger sign be erected in Sidey street, Caversham, at what he considered a dangerous corner. He also suggested that some pressure be brought to bear on the City Council to have the road widened.—lt was resolved to write to the City Council accordingly. An invitation was received from the Otago Expansion League for a representative of the club to be present at the league’s annual pre-sessional conference with the Otago members of Parliament, with a request that the secretaries notified of any matters the club .. islied to bring forward. —The chairman was appointed to attend as the club’s representative. A letter was received from Mr A. L. Burk, town clerk of Green Island, expressing his council’s appreciation of the manner in which the club had assisted in having the deviation _of the Lookout Point portion of the main highway in the Green Island borough attended to.—Received. GENERAL. An application from the town clerk. Green Island, to have two signs, “ School—Drive slowly,” erected on the Main South road in the vicinity of Concord School was granted. A similar application from Mr A. Wilson in respect of signs for the road near the Flag Swamp School was also acceded to. Mr C. Mackay referred to the condition of the Main South road from Maitland street to the bottom of Eglinton road, and from the Caversham tram terminus to the top of Lookout Point Hill, which, he said, was deplorable.— It was decided that the City Council be written to drawing attention to the state of the road and requesting that it be repaired as soon as possible. Advice was received from the South Island Motor Union that the quarterly meeting of delegates would be held at Timaru on June 22.—1 t was decided that Messrs A. E. Ansell, H. Halliday, and H. S. Reid represent the club. Mr P, K. Harman, secretary of the South Island Motor Union, wrote pointing out the advisability of having published a monthly journal for the union, and asked that the club support such a proposal at the quarterly meeting of the union. He pointed out that a reputable firm of publishers was prepared to undertake the publication of such a journal, and forward post free one copy each month to every member of the association and clubs affiliated to the South Island Union on payment of a subsidy of Id per member per month from each association. —The chairman said that the proposal had been discussed by the executive, and that it had been decided to support it, especially on behalf of the country members, to whom such a publication would prove of inestimable value. Twenty-seven new members were elected.
