MONTHLY COUNCIL MEETING. (Special to Daily Times.) WELLINGTON, June 12. . The monthly meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Golf Association was held yesterday, when there were present Mr W. E. A. Gill (chairman), Sir Alexander Roberts (vice-chairman), and Messrs M. J. Crombie, W. A. Kiely, A. D. S. Duncan, and G. O. Sutton (secretary). The following new clubs, which had duly made application, were elected members of the association: Geraldine Golf Club, Geraldine; Sounds Golf Club, Pclorus Sounds; Malvern Golf Club, Canterbury; Kaikoura Golf Club, Kaikoura; Gleniti Golf Club, Timaru; Maihiihi Golf Club, Otorohanga; Lamadou Golf Club, Lumsden, Southland. This brings the total total number of new clubs elected during the current year to 14, and the total membership in the association at date is 148 clubs. A request was received from the Professional Golfers’ Association that the New Zealand Association should support a project for sending four professionals to the Australian Open Championship in September, but it was decided that it was impossible to do anything in the matter this year. Inquiries had been received from two clubs as to the playing of a provisional ball where the first ball may have been out of bounds or lost. The question asked was whether only one stroke could be played with the provisional ball or whether it could be continued in play up to the point where the first ball was expected to be found. The matter had been referred to the Appeal Committee of the association, which decided that in accordance with the ruling of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club the provisional ball may be played up to the point where the first ball is expected to be. The following tournament dates have been advised:—Dannevirkc, August 9, 10, and 11; Rotorua, August 28 to 31 ; Takapua, August 29 and 30 ladies), August 31 and September 1 (men) ; Waipukurau, September (5, 7, and 8; Napier, September 11, 12, 13, and 14; Hamilton (South Auckland Championship), October 4, 3, and 6; New Zealand Championships (Dunedin), October 10 to 20; North Otago (Oamaru), October 22; Seafield (Wanganui), October 20, 22, and 23; Manawatu (Palmerston North), October 22, 23, and 24.
