TROUBLED CHINA

PEKING UNDER NEW MASTER. NO DISTURBANCES. (British Official Wireless.) (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) RUGBY, June 10. It is officially confirmed from Poking that General Sun-tso, of the sixth Shanghai army corps, took over the city of Peking on Friday without disturbance. Some difficulty, however, appears to have arisen over the withdrawal from the city of the Northern troops of General Pao Yu-lin, the safe conduct for which had been solemenly assured by the Nationalist Government at Nanking. Pao Yu-lin‘s troops have not been allowed to proceed further than Tunghsien, 16 miles from Peking, and have been disarmed and made prisoners. Urgent representations have been made by the diplomatic body in Peking to the Executive Council at Narking that it should fulfil its pledge. EVACUATION OF TIENTSIN. GENERALS DEMAND A PRICE. SHANGHAI, June 10. Chang Chung-chang and Chu Yu-pn are demanding 2,000,000 dollars _ from Tientsin as the price of the evacuation of the district, thereby obviating hostilities around Tientsin. Negotiations are proceeding.—United—Service. RIVER STEAMER OVERTURNS. MANY PASSENGERS MISSING. HONGKONG, June 10. The Chinese river steamer Koehow, packed with 360 passengers and 80 of a crew, struck a sand bar and turned turtle when proceeding to Wuchow from Hongkong late at Satuday night. The steamers Kwongying and Kongning, which were near by at the time, rescued approximately 248 people, leaving 120 unaccounted for. The survivors were brought to Hongkong this morning. There were no Europeans aboard excepting the captain and the officers, all of whom were saved.— United Service.
