SWEPT BY TORNADO

AEROPLANE LANDING FIELD. ELEVEN MACHINES WRECKED. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) WASHINGTON, June 9. (Received June 10, at 11 p.m.) At Bolling Field (near Washington), a tornado swept the landing field late in the afternoon, completely wrecking 11 aeroplanes and injusing six persons. The damake is estimated at between 250,000d0l and 500,000d^1. The storm struck the field with uncanny- suddenness, preventing the removal of the aeroplanes to safety. Several hangars were flattened to the ground, while a few aeroplanes were hurled to a height of 200 ft before crashing. One ’plane descended on a Red Cross ambulance containg three occupants, and demolished both ’plane and' ambulance, the occupants of which escaped with slight injuries. Two aviators approaching the field perceived the storm cloud, and averted certain death by a quick change of course. —Australian Press Association.
