A BUSY HOLIDAY.

HEAVY TRAIN AND TRAM TRAFFIC. ATTRACTIONS WELL ATTENDED. Dunedin people took full advantage of the holiday attractions yesterday, and the fact that the weather remained fine enticed them out of doors, trains, trams, and buses being heavily laden. Though many spent the week-end at holiday resorts, the Winter Show, the Dunedin Jockey Club races, the carnival at the Drill Hall, and the hockey tournament at Logan Park, attracted large crowds, and the streets of the city were crowded almost throughout the day. The races, of course, were the main attraction. In addition to the many who went to Wingatui by road, no fewer than 3700 travelled by train. Although the first express north carried only 250 passengers, the first express from the south brought nearly 900 holidaymakers, 400 of whom left the tram at Wingatui. The train left Dunedin for the north with 12 cars containing about 300 passengers. A relief express was run from Dunedin to Gore, leaving Dunedm at 4.15 with 10 cars and picking up passengers at Wingatui. The express arriving from the north at 4.25 p.m. was well laden, leaving Dunedin with approximately 300 passengers. The Bouth express arriving at' 6.43 was well patronised, there being no fewer than 500 passengers, and the 8.11 and 8.54 trains from the north brought 300 and 350 passengers respectively. At 9.54 the train carrying the West Coast farmers arrived laden with 300 passengers. Tramway traffic throughout the weekend was heavy. On Saturday the takings were £523, compared with £528 last year, and on Sunday the returns were £257, snowing an improvement of £ls on the figures for the corresponding day last year. Yesterday's tram traffic was exceptionally heavy, but the returns were not available last night.
