NEW LAMPSHADES.
The latest shades for electric lights are made simply from flat sheets of glass. These are made up sometimes like a book, or fiat box, with the light shut up inside, the bevelled edges of the glass being the only ornament. Others are made of several squares of glass suspended horizontally, one above the other, with a circle cut out right through the centre to hold the electric bulb. The sections- of glass have their edges coloured, and are joined by means of knotted cords, which end in long tassels. An effective and original shade for the hall or passage can be made from those cheap Japanese wind bells, hung, as imported, over a small light, or rethreaded on to a round or wire and arranged to hang over an opal reflector. This makes both an effective light covering and also a musical tinkle on the slightest breeze.
