(Feom Our Own Correspondent.) TAPANUI, .Tune 4. MANCHESTER UNITY. The monthly meeting of Loyal Tapanui Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.F.. was held on Thursday evening, when N.G. Bro. J. M'Auley presided over a large attendance One member was received by clearance from the Outram Lodge, and two new members were received by initiation. It was resolved to forward letters of appreciation to District C.S. Bro. J. A. Hopcraft and P.G. Bro. TV. Poyntz, of the Hand and Heart Lodge, for their kindness in visiting Bro. D. M'Ooll, a member of the local lodge who has been ill in Dunedin for the past seven months. The N.G. was congratulated on the manner in which he had carried out the arrangements for the visit to Balclutha on the previous Saturday. The nominations for officers for the next six months were received. GIRL GUIDES. The monthly meeting of the Executive Committee of the local Girl Guide Company was held on Friday afternoon, when the Commissioner, Mrs W. R, Quin, presided over a fair attendance. Preliminary arrangements were made for the fancy dress party for the celebration of the company’s second “ birthday ” on June 22, and for the Brownies’ party on the afternoon of June 23, both of which functions will be given by the members of the executive. General satisfaction was expressed with the work of the girls. MASKED BALL. The Lawn Tennis Club held a very successful masked and fancy dress ball in the Town Hall on Wednesday evening. The hall was hardly big eough to accommodate the large number of dancers. Miss M. Whiteley, who, dressed as a newsseller, received the lady’s prize, whilst Mr J, Perriam, who represented an Indian rajah, -won the gent’s prize. The lady members of the club provided the supper, and Mr R. H. Nicol carried out the duties of M.C. OLD GIRLS’ ASSOCIATION. Mrs D. Edgar presided over the annual meeting of the Tapanui District High School Old Girls’ Association on Tuesday evening, when there was a good attendance. The Secretary (Miss M. C. Murney) read the report and balance sheet, which disclosed a satisfactory state of affairs, and both were adopted without discussion. A letter was received from the Secretary of the Old "Boys’ Association asking for a suitable date to hold a combined meeting in order to make arrangements for the celebration of the school jubilee, which will be held in November next. It was resolved to hold the meeting on June 18. The Secretary of the School Committee wrote thanking the association for the handsome prizes which it had donated to The home science department of the school. Before \ seating the chair Mrs Edgar thanked the members for their help and support throughout the year, and expressed the wish that the new president would receive the same support and have as much pleasure in the "work as she had had. The following office-bearers were elected: —President, Mrs D. D. Potts; vme-presi-dent Mrs T. H. Edwards; secretary and treasurer, Miss M. C. Murney; auditor, Mrs Bruce M’Lcod. ACCIDENT. Mr T. Kirk, of Pomahaka, met with a painful accident on Tuesday last. Whilst lime-sowing he stepped on the end of a dray loaded with lime, which tipped, and the contents fell on him, pinning him against the sower. As a result his l e cr w as broken below the knee.
