THE REGENT.
STUPENDOUS OPENING ATTRACTIONS. “ MADAME POMPADOUR.’* - Madame Pompadour,” the love life of a famous French beauty who ruled the thrones of Europe, but could not control her own heart, has been chosen by the J. C. Williamson Films management as a fitting stellar attraction to inaugurate the opening on Friday evening next of the exceedingly beautiful and ornate Regent Theatre. The all-British production, “Madame Pompadour,” was adapted from the musical comedy which had a record run at Daly’s Theatre, London, and with Dorothy Gish a t La Pompadour and Antonio Moreno the lover heights of romance which have never been reached are looked forward to. She was France’s fairest; the sweetheart of the King! Her friends adored her, her enemies hated her; but all could do nothing but admire her—thus woman: La Pompadour. Kings listened to her every ■word. Armiee took their orders from her. Nations trembled at her frown, and yet all she wanted wa s the love of a poor young poet. Cleopatra, Nell Gwvnne, and Salome are all outclassed bv 'France’s famous charmer. In complete contrast and as a second featured attraction, W. C.. Fields the doyan of America’s legitimate comedians and the walrus moustached Chester Conklin appear in a comedy which boasts some laughable complications entitled “ Two Flaming Youths,” being the story of a happy-go-lucky showman and his deadly rival the small town sheriff, both of whom are contending for the lost of a supposedly wealthy widow. “The Bohemians,' a trio of English vandevillians notable J. C. Williamson’s Celebrity Vaudeville stars will make their initial in the Dominion. These artists captured the hearts of theatregoers both in Melbourne and Sydney in their renditions of music and songs, and are said to radiate a charm of their own. Dressed as French artists they take the well-known songs and make them live and vibrate, appearing in a setting that is both novel and bewitchinply alluring. The Regent Operatic Orchestra under the direction of Mr- Maurice Gntteridge (late of his Majesty’s private orchestra) will play a programme ranging from operatic gem 3 to the up-to-the-minute jazz. The box plan arrangements are advertised*
