DUNEDIN GARDENING CLUB.

The Gardening Cub held its first meeting of the Reason on Tuesday, when there was a very large attendance of members, every seat being occupied. Mr F. H. Holungworth presided over the meeting. It was chrysanthemum night, and the exhibition of these flowers by members was ' numerous, and of the very best quality Both the Japanese varieties (decorative and singles) was represented. Amongst the decorative and singles were to be seen the best and newest varieties. Mr E- A. Hamel gave a short address on what he saw when judging at the Wellington, Christchurch, and Invercargill shows. Ho gave premier place to Invercargill for the heat blooms. At Christchurch they had noro of the newer varieties, and were very strong in decoratives and singles of the latest varieties. The decorative work at all these shows was poor comparedi to that done in Dunedin. He paid a' tribute to the lady exhibitors at the Dunedin show by saying that their work was the best he had ever seen. Daring the evening compet(tion 0 were held, which reeulted as follows: —Beet decorative backet (open only to those who had never won first prize).—Mr Hare 1, Mis* Thomson 2, Mrs Sintop 3. Best decorative bowl. —Mrs Blair 1. Mrs Sinton 2. I In the display of chrysanthemums for exhibition the space available wa s inadequate for the exhibits to be seen properly, and it was impossible to obtain a complete list of the exhibits and exhibitors. The following were eotne of the exhibits: —Messrs Doodeward and Son., a wellbalanced board of six Japanese blooms of more than ordinary merit, a'so one pot plant of Gillepili with three lovelv blooms; Mr A. E. HamM. Japanese and decorative blooms; Mr H. T. Trevena, Japanese decorative and single blooms ; Mr A. G. Rigby. Japanese blooraa (outside grown without the aid of glass); Mr J. Roy (gardener for Mr Halsted), collection of decorative and singles; Mr W. Walker (gardener for Mr S. Solomon), decorative and singles; and Mr Blackburn. Mrs Blair. Miss Anderson, and others. A. vote of thanks was passed to Mr Hamc] and to those who assisted by bringing flowers for exhibition.
