MESSRS WRIGHT, STEPHENSON, AND CO. ANNUAL MEETING OF SHAREHOLDERS, (Sfeciaj. to Daily Timks.) WELLINGTO V, May 22 The twenty-second amu ;.i meeting •of the shareholders of Messrs Wrignt, Stephenson, and Co., Ltd.. w.as held at the head office of the company. 34 Customhouse quay. Wellington, to-day. The profit and loss account,, including £33,464 16s, brought forward from last year, showed a credit balonc of £68,608 10s Cd. A dividend of 7'per . ent. on the ordinary shares w;is declared, and the fixed payment to preference shareholders was adopted, leaving a balance of £34,072 19s to be carried forward. Messrs J. T. Martin and J. T. F. Mitchell, the retiring directors, were reelected. Messrs Barr, Hercus, and Co., auditors, were reappointed. ! . Jo! 1 ;i Offerings of tea. at th lirst auction sales held in Colombo in May comprised 2,500,0001 b, quality of which was not quite as good as that subn"itt?d at previous sales. A good genera : demand existed, and prices of comu. n aT| d medium teas advanced by 2c to -V a lb. Other grades were slightly easier where quality showed decline. The London market is reported to be dearer. Calcutta tea circles are greatly interested, but are not particularly inclined to accept the figures stated by Mr Pilcher in the House of Commons regarding the displacement of Indian tea by Java tea, although consumption of Java tea since 1919 has increased from 18.000,0001 b to 61.000,0001 b, while that of Indian tea has declined from 250,000,0001 b to 233,000,000 lb. The only menace to Indian tea considered in Calcutta is the steadily-im-proving quality of Java tea. The JavV product for long has been blended with Indian tea, and more Indian tea is nonbeing used. At present the position is said by some to be disquieting because British stocks of tea show an excess of 40,000,0001 b, and it is held that to make the situation really strong British stocks must drop 70,000.0001 bby July. On the other hand, supplies in outside markets, it is said, are 14.000,0001 b short. FOREIGN EXCHANGES. fUnlted Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.)
