PROSECUTIONS IN WELLINGTON MANY FINES lAIPOSED. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Alay 18. Seventy owners of motor vehicles were charged before justices of the peace at Wellington to-day for having unlicensed cars. The majority were fined 5s and 10s and one £l. The defence in oaeli case was that they had gone to the Town Hall on or before Alarch 31, but had been unable to obtain licenses owing to the enormous number of applicants. The police said that most of the Wellington motorists- had waited until the last minute to get their licenses. Counsel protested against the cases ■fc : ng heard ponding a decision of the legal point regarding the validity of the licenses, hut the presiding justices refused to adjourn any case in which the defendant pleaded guilty.
