WEEDS ON ROCKERIES.

A -weedy rock garden is almost a hopeless proposition. That is to say, it cannot be cured except by the drastic method of reconstruction. But if the rock garden has, through unavoidable neglect, been allowed to become weedridden, now is the time to renovate it. Except when there are frosts about, it docs the plants little harm to be lifted. Weeds can then be pulled carefully from among the plants, the soil can be stirred and the stones rebuilt where necessary. Fresh gritty soil put into the pockets will help the plants to re-establish themselves rapidly, and when spring comes the rockery will show little signs of disturbance, except for the vanished weeds. To lift a plant with a good ball of soil round the roots will do no damage.
