TO-DAY’S FOOTBALL.
RUGBY MATCHES. So far this season footballers have not been 'favoured with good weather, and this has militated against teams showing to the best advantage. It is hoped, howeer, that the elements will be kinder to-day, and that the grounds will bo in better condition than has been tho case so far. Two very interesting games should be witnessed at Carisbrook, where, at 3 p,m., Kaikorai will meet Southern. Kaikorai has a strong pack of forwards, and tho backs arc fast and nippy, and by the display last Saturday should develop into a strong combination before the, 1 season closes. Southern, though somewhat on the light side, are fast and keen, and are training hard. As a cur-tain-raiser the University A-Uniou match should provide a good exhibition. The Blues have a fast, clever set of backs, and the forwards have proved that they are capable of holding their own. Union put up a really good game last Saturday, and should shape even better on a dry ground. At Tahuna Park Zingari-Rich-mond will meet University B. Both these teams have shown a lack of combination an far, but each Saturday should reveal an improvement in this direction. At Logan Park Dunedin will meet Pirates. Dunedin appears to be a stronger side than they were last season, a-*U are training hard. Pirates have a very young team this season, but they possess some very promising material, and with better combination amongst tho backs should show a marked improvement. At Mosgiel a good game should be witnessed between Taieri and Alhambra. The Taieri have got a good strong side together, and Alhambra are capable of providing a good fast game. Official guides will be on sale at the Otago Sports Depot and at Carisbrook. The following matches will not be played to-day:— Third Grade. —University E v. High School. Fourth Grade. —M‘Gla«han v. High School. Fifth Grade.—Zingari v. Port Chalmers. i RUGBY LEAGUE. If the standard of play witnessed at the matches last Saturday is maintained and with the ground in firm condition good displays of League football should result. At 3 p.m., on the Caledonian Ground, Athletic will meet Christian Brothers, and the public is promised a good exhibition of the code. Christian Brothers Juniors and Athletic Juniors will meet at 1.30 p.m. as a curtain-raiser. On the Oval, at 3 p.m., Kaikorai and Pacific will play a match for the Senior Cup.
