AN EXPENSIVE HOLIDAY.
ORDERED TO PAY COSTS. (Pee United Press Association.-) WELLINGTON, May 4. Leonard Walter Corlett, a labourer, aged 32, was to-day fined £5 for failure to pay the hire of a taxi, and was ordered to pay the fare (£2 5s 9d), in default a month’s imprisonment. It was stated that he engaged a taxi to drive about with some women, and then said he had not got the money to pay. He was ordered to come up for sentence if called on within twelve months on a further charge of incurring debt by fraud. He said he was a farmer, and got a car on hire overnight from Williams Rental Cars, Ltd., paying £5 deposit. He was given two days’ more use of car, but had not paid the bill of £25. When located one of the windows of the car was broken. A condition of the sentence was that Corlett should pay the balance (£2l) within two months.
