DOMINION EXPORTS.

INTERESTING COMPARISONS. SATISFACTORY INCREASE IN PRODUCTION. (Special to Daily Times.) WELLINGTON. May 4. In the course of an interview to-day Mr Coates (Prime Minister) made reference to the increase in the production of the Dominion in the last few years. “ I would like to point out/’ he said, “ that from an export point of view, the year 1923 was really the first normal post-war year, and if comparisons are made between the calendar years 1923 and 1927 quite a hopeful picture is presented. The recorded exports during the last five calendar years, and the exports for the same years on the basis of prices ruling for individual commodities in 1923, are as follows: —

“These figures show clearly that while the volume of exports remained stationary during the four years 1923-26 it rose substantially in 1927, in spite of an increase of population of 107,000 since 1923. They show, further, that th§ increase of over £2,000,000 in the recorded exports in 1927, as compared with 1923, has actually been achieved in the face of lower prices.” _ " From the following figures showing the exports of principal commodities in 1923 and 1927, it is apparent that, with the exception of tallow and rabbit skins, all the important items of pastoral produce exported were considerably greater in volume in the later year:— Commodity 1923. 1927. Increase

“I should like to observe” concluded Mr Coatee, “ that what I have stated proves conclusively that production shows generally a very satisfactory increase, and is a marked tribute to the industry enterprise of our primary producers.
