THE SHOPS AND OFFICES ACT
TO THE EDITOI.. Snt,—The correspondent who writes over the Dom de plume of “ Watchful ” would have done better had ho signed himself " Ignoramus,” He states that when tobacconists stick to their legitimate calling they will have the public on their side, 1 not when they try to throttle the small Pkeepers, of whom he evidently is one. Iho amusing part of his letter comes in when ht- charges tobacconists with illegitimate trading in stocking such goods as razors, shaving soap, hair combs, etc., and --iiy other knick-knacks stocked by other peop.who aro forced to close their premises at 5.30 p.m. If the above mentioned articles, which “ Watchful ” says aro not tobacconists’ good?, 1 would like to know what are. All I can grasp in his letter it the new Shops and Offices Act hits ‘ Watchful ” hard, and he has a grudge against the law which forbids him to soil cigarettes after tobacconists’ hours.—l am, etc.. Shopkeeper,
