A HUSBAND’S “AFFECTION.”
THREE MONTHS IN GAOL. (Special to Dailt Times.) .WANGANUI, April 16. Proceedings in the Magistrate's Court to-day showed that a young man named Frederick Searle had a rather unusual way of showin? his affection for his wife and family. He was charged with trespassing . on his wife's, premises during the currency of a separation, order. Senior Sergeant Sivyers said that Searle had been on Pakatoa Island. On his return he went to his wife's home. She objected to his presence there and when the family would not let : him in he secured an a*e and threatened to break the piano and to assault his wife and children. One of the sons had to intervene and had to strike his father on t .the head with a hammer. Searle made no secret to the police of what he intended to'd6 to his family. He actually smashed the back door of the house in. He had been drinking at the.'time., Searle said that he was going away to work and wanted to say good-bye 'to his wife and family. The Magistrate: You could,do a great deal more than try to say good-bye with an axe. i . • • ■ Senior Sergeant. Lopbell said he feared that if Searle -were not kept away .from his .family there would be a tragedy. He was sentenced to three months' imprisonment with hard, labour.
