DUNEDIN GUN CLUB.

The large attendance of members of the Dunedin Gun Club at the Green Island grounds on Saturday afternoon piovided interesting sport, but the weather conditions for shooting favoured the clay birds owing to the fog causing false visibility. One of the visitors present was Mr S. Jolly, a sporting enthusiast from the Tarras district. In the handicap match of 15 clay birds the best scores were as follows: —W. Smellie (13yds), 14 birds; E. P. Graham (17yds), 13; T. Callaghan {llyds), 13; G. E. Turner (17yds), 12; P. E. Wood (11yds), 12; H. Smellie (14yds). 12; A. A. Fairbairn (11yds), 12; D. Jolly (13yds), 12; and S. Jolly (11yds), 9. The _ winner, W. Smellie, broke 13 of his birds with the first barrel, and in the shoot off for the second prize, trophy. E. P. Graham beat T. Callaghan on the ninth bird. A mock quail drive sweepstake of six birls followed, and, with the trap control, led by the club’s referee, Mr A. King, the competitors had to be very alert. A. A. Fairbairn was the only member to break the six birds, and he secured first prize money. With five breaks each, G. E. Turner. E. P. Graham, H. Smelho, and T. Callaghan shot off for second prize money, and finally G. E. Turner and E. P. Graham agreed to divide. W. Smellie and S. Jolly secured four breaks each.

The afternpon concluded with a sixbird double rise sweepstake, and the winner proved to be W. Morland, with six breaks. Being a comparatively new trapshooter, W. Morland was greeted with a round of applause at his success in what is regarded as difficult and tricky shooting. G. E. Turner, T. Long, P. E. Wood, and T. Callaghan each broke five birds, and in the shoot off second prize money went to G. E. Turner. E. P. Graham, R. M’Donald, H. Smellie, and J. A. Graham each secured four breaks.
