OUTBREAK IN DRAPERY

PREMISES,

DAMAGE NOT EXTENSIVE,

A fire occurred in tile drapery emporium of Messrs Milnes and Choyce. Ltd., lass night. The brigade confined the outbreak to the packing and despatch departments. The damage done has not yet been estimated. but it is not believed to be extensive.

BLAZE AT TAURANGA. (Vee United Press association.) TAURANGA, April 14.

A fire at 1 o’clock this morning completely gutted the business premises owned and occupied bv Mr G. Maltby, solicitor, and Mr E. T. Baker, estates commission agent. It was discovered by a nightwatchman, and had a good hold when the brigade arrived. A heavy wind was blowing, and the other tenants —Mr Chilcott (a tailor), Messrs Stevens and Gouldin" (surveyors), and the Plunket Rooms -all rulfered considerable loss.

A NEW PLYMOUTH OUTBREAK. (Per United Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, April 14. A six-roomed house in Smart road, owned and occupied by Mr R. J. Daisley, was destroyed by fire yesterday. The insurances were £BCO on the house and £3OO on the furniture. ,

LOCAL CALLS.

A cloud of smoke issuing from the chimney of a shop in George street, near Moray place, at midnight on Saturday, was responsible for the City Fire "Brigade despatching a machine and crew to that vicinity. The firemen’s services were not required. A receptacle containing fat caught fire in an oven in a Bay View road residence shortly before 10 a.m. yesterday. The City and South Dunedin Brigades responded to an alarm received at 9.53 a.m., and the blaze was quickly extinguished, no damage being doue. At 8.20 last night the City and South Dunedin Brigades received a call to Bskvalo street, St. Kilda. where an outbreak had occurred in an outhouse in close proximity to a six-roomed dwelling, owned and occupied by Mr J. Hoye. The fire was quickly extinguished, but the outhouse was ..aniaged to the extent of about £5.
