AUCKLAND, April 14. In the opening event Bombarder made a good finishing effort. Parfait Amour was not very vigorously ridden over the final furlong, but was right up third. Uralla jumped indifferently, but had too much pace for Lady Cintra over the

last bit. Lady Spalpeen failed to see it out. The start for the Foley Memorial saw Hipo carry the tapes away with him, and In the Shade was badly left. Branson led most of the way to spring a big surprise. Star Stranger, however, took the honours of the race. After winning with ridiculous ease at Ellerslie a week ago backers wanted nothing but Ohinemuri in the Oakley Handicap, and she duly won. A fine field lined up for the All Aged Stakes, and as expected backers went hotly for Aussie. Prince Humphrey showed the way into the straight from Paganelli, Lysander, and Aussie, but the last-named then asserted himself in no uncertain manner. The first three furlong? were cut out in 35 4-ssee. . In a big field of hack sprinters in the Chevalier Handicap, Aston proved a class above bis opponents. The owner-trainer, George Paul, completed a good double when be led in Awarere, winner of the sprint. He was a strong favourite. Romford was a hot favourite in the concluding event, but was run off his feet over the first part by Prince Lu. WEIGHTS FOR SECOND DAY. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, April 15.
