OTAGO RIFLE ASSOCIATION.

I EASTER MEETING. KIWI CLUB'S SUCCESS. Shooting had to be delayed for half an i hour, as the. targets were in the shade when the Otago Rifle Associations Easter meeting was concluded at Pehchet cay vesterday morning. The weather was line, but the bad visibility at the start made shooting at the 300yds range difficult, and the performances of the competitors were therefore not up to the The Ladies' Challenge Shield and the Ashburton Challenge Cup were won by the Kiwi Rifle Club's A team. The club holds the challenge shield for the seventh successive time. The shield, which is a replica of the shield exhibited in the Paris Exhibition in 1870, was first shot for on the Green Island range 50 years The Territorial Aggregate, which ended in a tie on Saturday between Privates Mackey and Andrews with 251 points each, was decided, three shots being fired at 600yds. Mackey proved to be the winner, and he will hold the silver cup presented by President W. Bannerman. Rifleman Richard Piper, of Christchurch, won the championship of Otago. He will hold the silver cup for a year and a medal permanently. The runnerup, Rifleman Muuro, was only two points behind the winner. It was stated yesterday morning that the ammunition used at the competition was not suited to the rifles used. Appreciation of the management of the competitions was expressed, special praise being given to Lieutenant Montgomery. Colonel E. R. Smith, president of the association, announced his retirement.
