The Sir James Clark Ross has reported that the Southern Queen, of 9000 tons, has just become a total wreck through striking an" iceberg in South Georgia waters. As she had on board 43,000 barrels of oil, valued at over £200,000, and the ship is worth about the same amount, the underwriters will be hit hard> The vessel was owned by Messrs Lever Brothers, and had a Norwegian crew. On striking the iceberg, the ballast was adjusetd to give her a sharp list to port to enable a leaky plats to be riveted. While this was being done the vessel capsized and sank. Thirteen men went down with her.
