UNIVERSITY GALA.

A gala afetrnoon has been arranged by the University Students’ Association to raise funds for the purpose of assisting to defray the expenses of the students who will represent the Otago University at the Easter tournament to be hold at Wellington. The gala will take place at the University Grounds to-morrow afternoon when an attractive programme of competitions will be presented. There will be competitions for putting and weight-lift-ing, a steeplechase round the town, finishing at the grounds, a lawn tennis-tourna-ment, and many other features. A cabaret will bo provided for those who may feel inclined to indulge in dancing, and a largo number of stalls, from which cakes, sweets, ice creams, books, etc., can be purchased, all under the control of students, botli male and female. _ Nothing is being left undone to provide an excellent afternoon's entertainment, and the fact that tho students have always proved themselves very willing to assist in any public movement to obtain funds for a deserving cause will no doubt be remembered now that the students themselves are in need of some assistance.
