FRIENDLY SOCIETIES.

RECHABITES. The Otago Provincial Council of the Rcchabites met in the Y.M.C.A. Rooms last Wednesday, when Prov. C.R.Bro. L. V. Gain presided over a large attendance of members. Reports were received from the various sub-committees which were appointed to arrange details regarding the society’s Dominion Conference to be opened in Dunedin on Wednesday nest. The reports. indicated that all arrangements were well in hand, and the committees were congratulated upon the preparations they had made. It was announced that the Mayor (Mr W. B. Taverner) had consented to accord the delegates a civic welcome in the Embassy Salon on Wednesday morning at 10.30, and on Thursday an observation tour of “ In and Around Dunedin ” will give the visitors an opportunity of seeing and admiring the “ city beautiful.” The fortnightly meeting of the Hope of Dunedin Tent was presided over by C.R. Sis. M. Reay. There was a good attendance of members, and other tents were also represented. Remits for the forthcoming Dominion Conference were discussed, and one candidate was proposed for iniation. At the fortnightly meeting of the Star of the South Tent, considerable interest was displayed in arranging for the combined adult and juvenile rally on Wednesday evening nest in honour of the Dominion Conference delegates. It was announced that the meeting will be controlled by the officers of the Otago Provincial Council, who will officially welcome the visiting delegates.

GOOD TEMPLARY. The Hope of Dunedin Lodge of the International Order of Good Templars held its weekly meeting on Wednesday last, Bro. S. H. Chapman (Chief Templar) presiding. The officers and members of the Rescue Lodge were in attendance, and were officially received and welcomed by the Chief Templar. Bro. E. J. lies, P.0.T., of the Rescue Lodge, replied. A motion of sympathy was passed with the vSisters Pauli on the recent death of their father. Credentials to receive the Grand Lodge degree were granted to Bro. T. Blanchard. The programme for the evening was in the hands of the E ’cue Lodge, and the following items wuc rendered: —Pianoforte solo, Bro. Bauchop; solo, Bro. O’Neill; recitation, Sis. Dray; humorous song, Bros. Bauchop and O’Neill; solo, Sis. Williams; solo, Sis. V. Waldrcn; duct, Sis. Williams and Bro. O’Neill.
