HARRIERS.

LEITH CLUB. The Leith Harrier and A.A. Club held its third annual meeting on Thursday in the Anglican Hall, Leith \ alley. There was a very large attendance of members. Twenty-two new members were elected, making a total active membership of 51, which augurs well for the coming season. The secretary was instructed to send a letter of sympathy to the patron of the club (Mr A. E. Usherwood), expressing sympathy with him in his illness. The President (Mr A. J. Dryden) expressed gratification at the large attendance, which showed the Leith Club was coming to the front as regards membership. The club i.ad had a very successful harrier season. The “ find ” of the year was A. Mann, a first-year runner. Mann won the club’s One-mile Maiden, and was third in the Five-mile Championship. In the Edmond Cup Mann finished fourth, and in the Otago Five-mile Cross-country Championship lie finished third. He was selected for the Otago team which won the teams’ race at the New Zealand Crosscountry Championship, in Which he secured tenth place and was third to finish in the Otago tfeam. This was a highly creditable performance for a first-year runner. In the Fort Road Race the Leith Club also secured a fair share of the honours. K. Pate, a first-year runner, gained second place, and S. Parker and R. Watson sixth and eighth places respectively. The thanks of the club was <lue to the unfailing interest of their energetic secretary (Mr A. H. Williams), owing to whose efforts the balance sheet showed a good credit balance, to the handicapper (Mr J. Watkins) and the trainers (Messrs J. O’Brien and J. Peterson) and to all the officials who had helped. A vote of thanks was passed to the press for the liberal amount of space devoted to the sport.
