Mr T. Somerville was a passenger for Wellington by tho midday express on Saturday. Mr G. W. Forbes, leader of die Nationalist Party, and Mr A. E. Davcy, organiser of the United Political Party, who were at Winton on Friday night, went through to Christchurch by the second express on Saturday. Mr R. Heatley, private secretary to Judge Ayson, Commissioner at Rarotonga, is at present on a visit to Dunedin. A Press Association cable message from Melbourne announces the death of Mr 0. R. Snowball, Speaker of tho Victorian Legislative Assembly, aged 68 years. Sir William Hall-Jones, M.L.C., left by the Mataroa yesterday on a trip to the Old Country. He expects to be away from New Zealand about six months. It is rumoured in. the Stratford electorate chat Mr E. Walter, M.P., will not be a candidate for the Stratford seat at the general election, and that Mr J, Ilino is a probable candidate (says the EUham Argus). It is further stated tnat Mr R. Masters, who formerly helu uio seat as a- Liberal, will not contest the seat, but that Mr N. 11. Moss will be a candidate. A Press Association telegram from Christchurch announces the death of Mr L. A. Stringer, registrar of Canterbury College, in his fifty-eighth year. Tho late Mr Stringer was educated in Christchurch, and for a number of rears wap an officer in the Government Valuation Department. In he left the Government service to become town clerk of Stunner, and later, he occupied a similar position at Lyttelton. He wais (appointed registrar of Canterbury College on the retirement of Mr G. H. Mason in 1919.
