(Freos Association—By 'Telegraph—Copyright.)
WASHINGTON, March 17, (Received March 18, at 5.5 p.m.) Owing to the failure of Nicaragua to enact legislation providing for the United States’ supervision of the next presidential election it has been decided to send thither 1000 additional United States marines.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
Mr Wilbur (Secretary of the Navy) announced that the 1000 additional marines to be sent to Nicaragua would bring the total force up to 3700. Mr Wilbur said that the 1000 men would be used only to supervise the coming election, but other Government sources state that there is a sufficient force already present to control the election. President Coolidge stated that fie regretted the necessity for sending more men, but he felt that the election must be properly carried out. —A. and N.Z. Cable.
