GOLF.

ST. CLAIR CLUB. The annual mixed foursome match fo* the Sidey Cup was played on the St. Clair links on. Saturday. The ideal weather and a course in excellent condition were, factors which contributed to the enjoyment of the large field, and the success of this fixture. During the aitornoon Mr and Mrs T. K. Sidey were present in tha capacity of host and hostess. In declaring the 1923 season officially open, Mr Sidey congratulated the club on its steady progress and expressed the hope that this season would be a bright and prosperous one. For many years Mr Sidey, as president of the club, has watched the progress and added interest which has been taken in the links, and he expressed a. wish that the club would soon see its way clear to complete the negotiations for the purchase of more ground on which to lay down extra holes, which would bring the course up to championship length. Mr Sidey gave the history of the cup which bears his name, and said that the standard of golf had always been of a high order. No presentation, however, could be made on Saturday afternoon on account of two pairs tying for first place. The Captain of the club, Mr A. C. Hanlon, in replying to Mr Sidey, expressed the pleasure of the members of having the president and Mrs T. K. Sidey with them, and thanked them for the interest and assistance which they had given in club matters. The leading cards were: Mrs W. Hudson and C. B. Wight, 3 up; Miss Dickson and R. E. Hill, 3 up; Mrs Wight and W. Clayton, 2 up; Mrs Gamble and H. .Stevens, all square; Miss Kav and J. H. Templeton, all square; Miss Gore and A. Laing, 1 down; Mrs Burnett and H, Chapman. 1 down. BALMACEWAN CLUB. A four-ball bogey handicap was played on Eahnacewan links on Saturday afternoon under ideal weather conditions. The competition attracted a largo entry and some good scores were handed in, J. S. Monro and A. N. liaggitt winning with a score of 13 up. The best cards were: J S. Monro (3) and A. N. Haggitt (8), 13 up; R. W. Dick (6) and R. E. Hayward (6), 12 up; W. F. Edmond (14) and Fraser Edmond (IS), 11 up; G. F. Barnett (2) and D. M. Irvine (2), 9 up; J. P. Rutherford (9) and R. B. Dotids (8), 9 up; H. Barron (9) and H. de C. M‘Arthur (8), 8 up; 13. J. Hocking (5) and A. J. Sise (8), 8 upj H. Brasch (6) and V. E. Galway (5), 8 up;; C. T. Irvine (5) and J. R. Callander (5), 8 up; J. W. Bmcaton (15) and J. C. Bhand (12). 8 up.; S. C. Col beck (3) and J. RLaidlaw (6), 7 up; D. Wright (12) and E. A. Reed (4), 7 up; €. Turnbull (8) and A. Todd (8), 6 up; N.
