PLUNKET SOCIETY.

Tho monthly meeting of the committee of Urn Royal New Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Children was held in tho Blanket office on Friday, and was attended by Mrs Johnstone (in the enairj, Lady Allen, Mesdanies J. M’George, 'L. K. Hide'y, G. R. Ritchie, Wilson, Williams, Mandcno, Cleghorn, Arundel, Cairncy, Carr, J. C. M'Georgc. Miss Reid and the secretary. Apologies for absence \vero iceoived from Mesdames Taverner, Cuninghame, Solomon, John Watson and Sister Nora. Tho Treasurer presented a statement of the society’s finances to date, and accounts were passed for payment. Mi’s J. A. Johnstone was unanimously granted leave of absence during her absence from New Zealand, the members of the committee expressing the hope that she would have a very enjoyable trip to tno Old Country. Miss Jean Burt was unanimously granted indefinite leave of absence from the committee.

It was decided to hold a jumble sale iu April in aid of the society’s funds. The Matron of tho Karitane-Harris Hospital reported as follows for the month of ■’February:—Number of patients admitted during the month, 15 mothers, 23 babies, total 38; discharged, 16 mothers, 21 babies, total 37; largest number in residence at any time, five mothers, 25 habios. total 28; number in residence on February 29, 1 mother, 23 babies, total 21. Sources of admission—Patients were admitted from Beaumont, Mosgiel, Dtuiback, Gisborne, Owaka. Totara and Seacliff. Gifts were received from Mrs Orbell sen., and Miss Fitzgibbon. There were 105 visitors during the month. Tho Plunket nurses for North and Centra] Dunedin districts reported as follows for tho month of February:—Number of babies on the list. 841; number of older children, 112; number of babies breastfed (including partly), 238; number of new cases for the month (babies only), 26; number of babies broast-fed (including partly) now cases, 26; number of visits paid to homes, 569; number of visits paid to Plunket rooms. Stuart street —mothers 322, babies 238, older children 29, total 633; number of visits paid to Plunket rooms, Roslyn—mothers 96, babies 85, older children 12. total 193; number of visits paid to Plunket rooms, Mornington—mothers 210, babies 102, older children 19, total 421; number of visits paid to KelseyYaralla Kindergarten—mothers 78. babies 63, older children 31, total 172; number of visits paid to Out-patients Department, Public Hospital—mothers five, babies three, older children throe, total 11; number of bottles of humanised milk sent out from Taieri Dairy, 2377. The Plunket Nurse for South Dunedin district reported as follows for the month of February:—Number of babies on the list, 4£o; babies breast fed (including partly), 133; now cases for the month (babies only), 12;' babies breast-fed (including partly, now cases), 10; visits paid to homes. 263; visits paid to Plunket Rooms—King Edward street. South Dunedin; Mothers 230, babies 218, older children 46; —total, 494. The Plunket Nurse for Caversham district and outstations (north line), reported as follows for month of February:—Babies on the list, 216; babies broast-fed (including partly), 40; new cases for the month (babies only), 8; babies breast-fed (including partly, new cases), 5; visits paid to Plunket Rooms, Stuart street, from aversham: Mothers 39, babies 33, older children 8; —total 80; visits paid to Plunket Rooms at outstations: —Mothers 83, babies 77, older children 17; —total 177. The following visits were paid to outstations; Waikouaiti 4, Port Chalmers 5, St. Leonards 2, Burkes 4, Ravensbonrne 5, Macandrew Bay 4; visits paid to homes 144. The Plunket Nurse for Anderson’s Bay district and outstations (south line) reported as follows for month of February:— Number of babies on the list, 245; babies breast-fed (including partly). 107; now oases for tho month (babies only), 13; babies breast-fed (including partly, new cases), 11: visits paid to Plunket Rooms: Anderson’s Bay—Mothers 174, babies 150, older children 15;—total 339 ; Mosgiel, Mothers 51, babies 45, older to*al, 109: Outram —Mothers 12, babies 12; older children 1; —total. 25. Visits paid to homes: —Anderson’s Bay, 106; Mosgiel, 12; Abbotsford, Green Island and Burnside, 33;—total, 156. The following visits were paid to outstations:—Mosgiel 4, Abbotsford 4, Green Island 4. Burnside 4, Outram 2.
