DYING WIDOW’S HOARD.
20 YEARS ALONE. Over £2500 in Treasury notes, sovereigns, and silver wore found roughly tied up in an old newspaper when the police broke into an eccentric old widow’s linnse at Ilnlmo, one of tho poorest districts in Manchester. She was Mrs Ann Stanley, the owner of nine houses, and. but for the fact that she had not called for her vents, which alone caused her to leave her untidy ami badly-furnished home, nothing might hav u been known of her plight. The police found her very i' ! . and she died soon after her removal to hospital, [n her rooms were found an uncooked goose and a number of mince pies. Later inquiries showed that she - had £lO-90 to her credit at the bank. “ She was an odd character,” said one of her neighbours. “ She was rarely scon out —apart from her most punctual rentcollecting tours—and never discussed her private affairs with anyone. She took cate of her pennies and never spent a penny when a halfpenny would do. She vote the same old clothe* and had lived alone in tho same house for 20 years.” Mrs Stanley had neither sons nor daughters. but, had a sister and an invalid brother in Manchester, So far no Mill has been discovered.
