RICE DAY IN ITALY

SIGNOR MUSSOLINI’S ORDERS. CHEAPER THAN SPAGHETTI. (Press Association— By Telegraph-Copyright. 1 ROME, February 19. (Received Feb. 21, at 0.30 a.m.) To-day was rice day throughout Italy, Signor Mussolini having ordered that neb and poor should partake of this dish. The dictator has found that rice is cultivated in many districts of Italv and that it is cheaper and more nutritious than spaghetti. Moreover, a national increase in the consumption of rice may save Italy from having to import wheat. The Fascist newspapers are exhorting the public to eat rice, and the doctors are giving addresses in the pulpits of the churches on the subject. ■ The hotels and restaurants include rice in every menu, and there are free distributions of the grain in the poorer districts.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
