SOUTH OTAGO CRICKET.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) MILTON”, February 20. The results of Saturday’s matches in the northern division of the South Otago Shield competition did not alter the relative positions of the competing teams. Victories were gained by Milton A and Lovell's Flat, thus remaining equal for the supremacy, with each team having only one more match to play. Indications point to the probability of these teams having to play a deciding match for the championship of the division. Milton A defeated the club's B team, and Lovell's Flat scored a substantial victory against Stirling on the latter’s ground. Milburn had a life owing to Kaitangata’s withdrawal from the competition. The shield points are: — r. W. L. D. Pts. Milton A .... 13 10 2 1 21 Lovell’s Flat ..13 10 2 1 21 Milburn .... 13 7 4 2 16 Stirling .... 13 5 8 Milton B .... 13 3 10 •Kaitangata ..-13 2 11 * Kaitangata has withdrawn. LOVELL’S ’LAT v. STIRLING. A Lovell’s Flat team journeyed to Stirling, and defeated the home team by 109 runs. The visitors’ score was easily the highest so far recorded on the Stirling wicket. Batting first, Stirling scored 61, T. Davey (18) being the only doublefigure contributor. F. Bowie (four wickets for 30 runs) and C. Clarke (three for 13) obtained the best bowling averages for the visitors. Lovell's Flat responded with 230 runs. G. '.V. Murray topped the score with 76, and F. Bowie (51), A. Gale (39), F. Robertson (32), and R. Murray (l 4) were the other principal scorers. Stirling tried eight bowlers, and the best average was obtained by C. Barron (five for 37). Murray’s score included three sixes and six fours. While wicket-keeping in the foregoing match T. Davey, of Stirling Club, received a severe blow on the nose from a ball thrown in by a fieldsman. The injury caused his retirement from the game. MILTON A v. MILTON B. The shield match between Milton A and Milton B teams on Saturday resulted in a victory for the A team by three wickets and 124 runs. The B team’s batsmen, with the exception of J. M’Donald (22) and F. Vidal (12) could not withstand the deadly bowling of W. Jeffery (seven wickets _ for 17 runs) and W. Wilson (thiee for 25). The innings closed at 56. The B team’s score was passed before the fall of the A team’s fourth wicket. R. Findlay topped the score with 60, and other double-figure contributors in the A team’s total of 180 for seven wickets were W. Heads (26), E. Olver (19 not out). J. Turnbull (18), W. Jeffery (16), and H. Hood (11).
