NASEBY NOTES.

> (From Our Own Correspondent.) NASEBY, February 20. A team from the Oturehua Cricket Club visited Naseby on Saturday in the association programme, and an exciting game was' witnessed. Oturehua, batting first, made 98 (Spiers 20, C. Pyle 25, J. Smith 12). The fielding was very good, and bowlii keen. Dryden obtained four ■wickets for 23, Marslin one for six, and Gibson one for five. Naseby then went in, and Oturehua showed keen fielding and. bowling. Dryden made 31, Jopson 2-, Gibson 17, and Bradshaw 11. Barclay bowling obtained the same average as Dryden—four for 23; Murphy took two for 16 and Smith three for 41. lowards the close of the game Naseby made great efforts to increase their score, which gradually mounted up to 90, and then upwards till it reached 98, which made level scoring. The last wicket fell at that score, with 10 minutes left, the game thus ending in a draw. It was a thoroughly -mod game, the fielding ou botu eiefes being very good. Naseby bowlers visited Ranfurly on Saturday with three rinks, and secured a win by 69 to 14. Results (Ranfurly scores first): —Joues, Bandy, Cooper, A. Smith 17, Smith, Lloyd, Newman, VauJfian 17; M'Erlane, Spence, Davis, Friend —, Graham, T. Moore, Templeton, Brown 23; Cambridge, M‘L»ean, Jones, Bell 9, I'lynn, Whiston, Bremner, Graham 20. Totals: Naseby 69, Ranfurly 44. Many will regret that Constable V auchan is leaving Isaseby district, thoiigh all will join in congratulations on his promotion. Constable Vaughan has been promoted to the rank of sergeant and ■will leave at the end of this month lor Dunedin. He has always taken a keen interest in sporting matters, and the good wishes of all go with him in his new charge. Constable Fox, of Ivumara.will take°his place in Naseby. ~ . . It is reported that the Commissioner iof Crown Lands will visit Naseby in a few days’ time, probably tills week, to investigate commonage matters. I understand that he wjll arrange a public meeting to consider the matter. .... The arrangements for the school picnic en Thursday next are well in hand, and given fine weather it is expected a laroe fiumber will attend. The local shops will declare a holiday for the occasion, and from inquiries all available cars and lorries are likely to be required to conVev the partv to the ffaien riverside. The loca 1 Oddfellows’ Lodge is to hold Bn important gathering to meet the district officers on Monday evening, and a largfc attendance is expected.
