THE UNEMPLOYED RELIEF WORKS.
TO THE EDITOE. Sm,—The general cry ia for the Government to settle the land, but what is the use of doing that when farmers and their sons neglect their farms, and let them grow noxious weeds, scrub, etc., and become a breeding place for rabbits, leaving their places to go to wreck and ruin so as they can get employment on the relief works. ] understand these works are for bona fide workers, who are out of employment. I hope the Labour Department will see that it is only bona fide unemployed workmen who are employed. If not, then the authorities should employ only fanners and their sons who are neglecting their farms, and can go to their work in motor cars. It seems we do not want to lessen the labour problem, but to let the farmers grow rich at the country’s expense.—l am, ©to* Pao BOlfO PtfBLKKJ.
