DUTIES ON IMPORTS. (Prom ABMtrtatlOD—By Telegraph—Copyright) OTTAWA, February 17. A resolution tabled in the House of Representatives by Mr Young, member for Weyburn (Saskatchewan), calls for the repeal of section 43 of the Customs Act, which gives the Minister of the National Revenue power to place a fixed value for duty on imports of natural products of the kind produced in Canada. This power is in addition to the power contained in the anti-duinping clause, to which the Liberals do not object, but the power to place a fixed value has, they think, the effect of artificial dumping. The Minister of Agriculture and the Department of Justice are of the opinion that it is not within the competence of the Minister of Revenue to apply the anti-dumping clause in cases where power has been exercised (o place fixed values on imported goods.—A. and N.Z. Cable. TREATY WITH AUSTRALIA. OPPOSITION MOVE DEFEATED. OTTAWA, February 18.
