DUNEDIN GUN CLUB.

LADIES’ DAY. ’ The opening of the 1928 season for the Dunedin Gun Club took place at the Green Island grounds on Saturday afternoon, and being Ladies’ Day, the members’ wives and lady friends gathered together in. strong force, and a pleasant outing, resulted. The weather was dull, with an absence of wind, but after a sojourn of two months several of the clay birds eluded the shooting efforts of several of the members. Five trophies were allotted to the chief match of 15 clay birds, and the ladies drew from the “ hat ” the shooter to represent thorn. The best scores were D. Jolly (11yds) 14 breaks, J. A. Orlowski (15yds) 14 J. A. Graham (15yds) 14, 11. M'Donald (13yds) 14, E. P. Graham (18yds) 12. H. Smellio (12yds) 12 and T. Long 11yds) 12. In the shoot off D. Jolly proved the winner after the eighth bird, with J. A. Orlowski second. J. A. Graham tvas third, R. M‘Donald fourth, and E. P. Graham fifth. The President. Mr G. E. Turner, in thanking thei ladies for then - presence and for the daintv afternoon tea supplied by them, then handed over the trophies to the winning ladies as follows:—Mrs R. Morrison, first (biscuit cabinet); Mrs R M'Donald second (vase); Miss R. Callaghan, third (bedroom clock); Mis s Parker, fourth (muffineer set); Mrs _A. A. Fairbairn fifth (scent bottle). A special prize went to Mrs \V. Morland. A nfne bird sweepstake handicap followed. and with'iiino breaks, all first barrel, E. P ' Graham took the first prize, and 11. Smellie, with eight breaks, secured the second prize. The afternoon was concluded with a sis bird double rise sweepstake, and this difficult form of shooting favoured the clay birds, the total breaks recorded being 25 out of 66. With four breaks each, G. E. Turner and 11. Smellio divided the prize money. During the presentation of prizes, opportunity was taken by tlio president to present the first holder. Mr J A Graham, with the “ Rutherford Cup.” established for aggregate first barrel shooting throughout each season In responding Mr Graham ex pressed his pleasure in having his name engraved on the clip, and mentioned that ho had been connected with trim club shooting for over 30 years, and fully appreciated the coveted honour.
