A SHUNTER’S DEATH.
THE INQUEST ADJOURNED. WORKING CONDITIONS CRITICISED. (Siecial to Daily Times.) CHRISTCHURCH, February 18 A motion of sympathy with the widow and family of H. G. Gorse, who died as the result of injuries received hi a shunting accident at the Middleton marshalling yard last evening, was passed at a largelyattended special meeting of the Sunters Council this afternoon. The circumstances leading up to the accident ancl the working conditions at the Middleton yard were freely discussed, and a further meeting will be held later for the purpose of continuing the discussion. Frequently have the shunters engaged at th© new Middleton marshalling yards expressed their dissatisfaction with an apprehension of serious accidents on account of the method of assembling and shunting goods wagons. An inquest in connection with the accident was opened this morning before Mr E. D. Mosley, , coroner. Sergeant D. M'Gregor represented the police. George Ballixton Grose, a brother of deceased, gave evidence that his brother was a railway porter, and was 27 years of ane. He was a married man residing at 21 Hamilton street, Spreydon. He had always enjoyed good health. The inquest was adjourned sine die lor the coroner to visit the scene of the accident.
