MUNICIPAL MILK STATION.

AREA OF CITY LAND. NOTICE TO TENANTS TO QUIT. (Special to Daily Times.; WELLINGTON, February 19. It has been known for gome time that tho City Council has acquired under the Public Works Act a site on Te Aro Flat for the erection of a new milk station. The area concerned includes a small portion of Tory street, one side of Charlton avenue, the. greater portion of Alma lane,' and a number of houses in Francis place. Last week notices were served on some 37 tenants to quit their dwellings and other premises occupied by them. It is understood that several of the properties are vacant sections and non-residential buildings, but over 30 tenants of dwelling houses have received notice to vacate their houses by March 10. “ I -wish to take this opportunity of stating,’' said Mr P. Fraser, M.P., “ that no person appreciates to a greater extent the valuable work done by the Municipal Milk Department for the citizens of Wellington than I do. I think it is one of the finest municipal enterprises in the world. As a member of the Milk Committee of the City Council for four years I can testify to the enormous amount of work which was involved in the establishment of the municipal milk scheme on a sound basis. I am further fully aware of the painstaking and onerous work of members of the present and past milk committees, and particularly I wish to express appreciation of the services of the late chairman, Mr C. T . B. Norwood, and the present chairman, Cr W. H. Bennett, both of whom have given enormously of their time and ability to the department. 1 would be the last to do anything in any way in opposition to the municipal milk scheme. On the contrary, I have done, and will continue to do, everything in my power to assist it. For instance, it was my privile -e to have charge of the Wellington Milk Supply Amendment Bill during the hard fight in Parliament in the 1926 session, but neither I nor, I am sure, tho City Council or the citizens of Wellington, will agree to tho ejection of 140 men, women, and children from their homco unless suitable housing provision is made for them elsewhere.”
